Description
Camphill Special School’s mission is to create wholeness for children and youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities through education and therapy in extended family living so that they may be better understood and their disabilities moderated, that they may more fully unfold their potential, and that they more fully and meaningfully participate in life. Camphill Special School is a Waldorf school, as well as a Pennsylvania Approved Private School, for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are part of the worldwide Camphill movement and the only Camphill community in North America for children.
We offer residential and day academic and prevocational programs, as well as therapeutic care, for children in kindergarten through grade twelve. We also offer a Transition Program for young people ages eighteen to twenty-one.

Our experience at Camphill has given my son integrity, confidence and real capabilities in an atmosphere that is both nurturing and stimulating. HE has come to realize his value as a responsible person in a world outside of his own needs.My son was a student at the school for 8 years prior to graduation, and is now very engaged and a committed member of the transition program.

Our daughter was enrolled in many different educational settings before we found Camphill Special School, which we found to be the perfect environment for her. She has grown so much in so many ways, with the gentle guidance and support the staff at CSS offers. It’s a real community, with everyone living and working together. Everyone has a role that gives them a sense of purpose and achievement. More than anything else, this is what separates Camphill from all the other special ed settings we tried.
This is a truly amazing and unique environment for kids with disabilities.
