Description

Charlestown Play House provides an exceptional learning environment that supports the whole child and places the needs of the children first. The program is designed to foster growth and creativity within each child in many areas of development including social, emotional, cognitive, and physical. Activities are open- ended: children work at their own pace. Our teachers implement an emergent curriculum, taking ideas and current interests directly from the children. Parents work in a classroom one day a week, allowing teachers to offer a variety of activities and to individualize teaching to meet the children’s needs and interests. In addition, parents are responsible for contributing time and talents to maintaining the building and grounds and to fundraising.

We believe that it is through play that children learn best about themselves and their world; through active involvement with real materials and experiences under the care of a nurturing staff. Hands-on activities and child-initiated activities are encouraged and supported by the teachers.
