After the lackluster failure of Charlies, now the building is occupied by Butcher Burger. Exton residents are excited to have a new “from scratch” hamburger joint. Unfortunately, Butcher Burger, needs to go back to the Butcher Block. It all begins with stomach-turning mustard paint on the outside, and doesn’t get much better on the inside. Hospitality and greetings are non-existent. The staff are more befitting of the traveling circus-carnie variety. Menu is promising yet still extremely limited-one salad, burgers, fries, yet potato skins are a nice option and the fixings for your burger offer more variety than most. Hand dipped milkshakes seem to be the best item on the menu. Fries are good, especially if you like the non-greasy type of fries with the skins left on. But the show piece, the burger, even though it is touted as 100% Angus Beef, would be more accurately labeled Angus Young, as it screams out just average, tasteless, greasy, nothing on a completely tasteless bun. The photos on the menu are not the actual food served in the restaurant (bizarre, and unethical), and the menu has typos which cause some confusion. Worst of all, the barbecue sauce is something found as a secret polynesian sauce at a street-vendor’s cart in the bowels of some dirty NYC street. What a mistake. What a tragedy. Butcher Burger is simply yet another case of “anybody can open a restaurant, but it takes talent to build one that works.” C- to D Prediction: Out of Business in 13 months…July 2011.

I enjoyed the food I had there last night. It was a bit on the pricey side, but altogether not bad. The burger was good, but nothing spectacular. For such a limited menu, it has to be special, and nothing stood out about it.
However, the French Fries were delicious. Nowhere else around sells that kind of Fry: they remind me of the Potato Sack/Patch fries you get at festivals or in shopping malls. They are by far the best fries in the area. The only thing I didn’t like about them is that there weren’t that many of them. The boat that they’re served in is large, but I didn’t get enough fries that the boat should have had.
Altogether, I enjoyed the food. I’ll definately be back again.

Please patronize this place. There are way too many chain restaurants that do not provide the service and food quality like this place. I do not want to see a shop like this go out of business. The food is great!

Went there about a week after they opened for lunch. Got a burger fries and milkshake. The burgers were good. Much better than the two fast food places round the corner, plus the buns did not have seads. (Sesame seeds is a real turnoff for me) Real chocolate chips in the milkshake, yum. But the fries were dull and greasy, yuck. The burgers are still worth it, I just won’t get the fries next time. Anyone can make a good burger with fresh meat and fresh toppings, but it’s the fries that will keep people coming back. It did not seem much different than the charlees that was there before it, except charlees had better fries. If they stick to a limited menu, improve the quality of the fries and ADVERTISE, ADVERTISE ADVERTISE, I think they can make it.
By the way, I think the only reason Charlees failed at this same location was a lack of advertising. So far, I have seen very little in the way of advertising, coupons or promotions, so as much as I’d like it to stick arround I expect this place to go under in six months. They seem to be following the same path as Charlees.Give it a try before it’s gone.

Went there on a tuesday nite at 7ish. One other car in the parking lot. Walked in with no greeting. Burgers were very good excellent taste, alittle on the greasy side but not extreme. Fries very limp and greasy but onion rings were crisp but not real flavorful. I have a feeling this place wont make it due to location unless they promote themselves alot more then they are. Its worth a try a bit expensive but you better try them now because they will be closed shortly if they dont get there name out there!

Very pleasant surprise. At a similar price point to Dog House Burgers, these were much better. Service was friendly too.
And their hot sauce is outstanding!

Definitely recommend this spot. We did a “taste test” between Jake’s Wayback and Butcher Burger. Our family ordered similar burgers/fries/shakes from each. Loved the burger and fries from Butcher–juicy, flavorful burgers, excellent fries. Butcher’s shakes were good, but Wayback’s thick, creamy ones were better.

The place has really gone down hill fast. No patrons during lunch time when all near eateries are full. Chik-Fil-A next door was packed at 12:15 and this place was empty. After I tried to eat my WAAYY over priced order of just a burger and fries ($9 and change) no drink. Food preparers rubbing their noses and hair while preparing my food. The over cooked the burger so bad it wasn’t recognizable. There was no manager to complain to. I will never be back. I wouldn’t waste my time or my money. You can get twice as much for the price next door.
