Description

The moment you enter the Inn at Mendenhall, a glowing sense of hospitality surrounds you. A step inside the Hotel’s spacious lobby reveals refreshing floral arrangements, marble floors, smooth Persian rugs and cozy sitting areas. Sophisticated diners from the Brandywine Valley and the world over find dining at the Mendenhall Inn to be more than a pleasurable experience…the warm glow of candlelight, the gentle aroma of fresh flowers, our three fireplaces, soft music and the lovely views of our gardens. Sumptuous selections borrowed from country French and New American cuisines, white glove service, superb tableside “flambe” desserts and coffees, make dining at the Mendenhall Inn a unique experience.

In addition, a gentleman’s sports bar adjoins the restaurant for a less formal dining experience. Come see for yourself why, every year since 1987 the Mendenhall Inn has been the recipient of numerous awards including Best Out of State Restaurant (Wilmington News Journal); Best Mushroom Soup in the Brandywine Valley (Mushroom Festival); Best Brunch (County Lines), Best Gourmet Restaurant and Best Wine Selection (Delaware County Times) as well as being awarded an “Excellent” by Zagat. The Mendenhall Inn has long been recognized as one of the finest dining experiences in the Brandywine Valley. Sports jackets are appreciated and reservations are highly recommended.

Normally, the Mendenhall Inn can be counted on for excellent service and fine food. Our last meal there had neither. My wife’s beef dish must have been sitting under the heat lamp as her “sauce” was congealed and the meat tasteless. My crepes were so soaked in excess butter as to make them inedible as well. We have been to the inn many times for banquets, weddings and dinner and never had such a poor meal. After this poor experience, I would look elsewhere before returning.

Very disappointing experience. Very unlikely we wll return. Three of the six in our party ordered the grilled ahi tuna. While the tuna appeared to be cooked as ordered (rare), it was very dry and had little taste. When we advised our waiter he apologized and suggested only that we could top the tuna with a sauce or glaze in an attempt to moisten the fish, as sometimes tuna can be dry especially when it is flash frozen???

What’s disappointing is the response from the waiter and the total disregard that three guests could not eat their entrees.
